Addis Ababa – The African Union summit elected the Ethiopian Premier Hailemariam Desalegn as Chairperson of the African Union to succeed his predecessor, President of Benin.
The new AU Chairperson said that Sudan and South Sudan made important progress in implementing the AU roadmap and the UNSC Resolution 2046 of 2012 by signing a series of agreements on most of the outstanding issues.

He added that both countries agree to address the problems encountered in the implementation of the agreements and made progress in their negotiations to resolve the remaining outstanding issues.
“We should continue to assist Sudan and South Sudan in achieving the objectives of creating two viable states living side by side in peace and harmony”, said Desalegn.
